Position: Sr. Polymer Process Engineer

Hybrid work: Office is centrally located near Irvine, CVA

Salary: $120,000 - $165,000 DOE

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will work in our clients R&D group to advance the development and scaling of material compounding as well as film and injection molded part production using natural and biodegradable materials to help rid the world of plastic pollution. The role focuses on the development of equipment and processes to improve production efficiency and product quality. This role offers an exciting opportunity to create revolutionary products to replace single-use plastic.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Engineering, Polymer Science, or related field with 5+ years industry experience
• Hands-on experience setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting blown or cast film, injection molding, and/or compounding production equipment
• Understanding of how thermomechanical processes influence polymer morphology and how polymer thermodynamic and rheological properties impact its processability
• Experience interpreting polymer characterization techniques (DSC, DMA, rheometry
• Data analytics competency including design of experiments, statistical modeling, and analysis of data to drive decisions
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects
  
• Excellent record-keeping skills
• Ability to train others on manufacturing processes and procedures
  
• A desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on development and production environment with a challenging to process material
• Willingness to travel 10-20%

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

• Develop compounding, blown film, and injection molding processes on our equipment for existing and new material formulations including equipment modifications and parameter optimization
  
• Work with external partners on developing compounding, cast and biaxially oriented film, and injection molding production processes
• Scale processes from pilot to full commercial scale with our manufacturing partners
• Collaborate with our materials engineers and external partners to optimize material formulation in conjunction with processing to achieve target characteristics
• Create project plans that establish requirements and measurable results, coordinate resources, execute the project activities, and apply results to improve our production processes
• Lead investigations to pinpoint processing or performance difficulties and apply technically robust solutions
• Create design of experiments and build testing plans to generate data that can be interpreted to drive decisions
• Thoroughly document project, investigation, and testing plans and results for repeatability and actionable comparisons between efforts
• Analyze production processes holistically to identify cost-saving opportunities and develop plans to address them
• Design new equipment and modifications to existing equipment as well as work with equipment manufacturers to improve production quality and efficiency
• Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for process control and equipment setup
