MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Buyer III - IV is responsible for:
- Identifying and procuring materials and services required by the organization, using the approved procedures and best practices.
- Contacting and negotiating with suppliers.
- Creating purchase orders and reporting to management about progress.
- Performing administration of purchase orders involving medium to high monetary expenditure or risk, engineered technical specifications, or supplementary commercial conditions.
- Obtaining quotes from vendors and achieving cost savings through bidding, and negotiations.
- Reviewing and analyzing vendors bids.
- Communicating with suppliers and personnel to establish clear definition of requirements, and to assure performance to purchase order terms and conditions.
- Issuing purchase orders and supplements in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Maintaining confidentiality of all data.
- Recommending alternative sources of supply to minimize disruptions.
- Conducting in-depth evaluations of supplier performance.
- Developing long-term continuous improvement of supply chain management agreements with vendors.
- Creating and releasing long-term contracts with suppliers.
- Sending weekly reports to management, requiring expertise with Microsoft Excel.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
ESSENTIAL
DESIRABLE
Bachelor’s degree.
Business administration, accounting, supply chain management, logistics or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant supply chain experience such as purchasing, expediting, warehousing, MRP/ERP system).
Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Business Central).
Expert in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to deal with ambiguity.
Understanding of raw materials, tools, and consumables.
Ability to objectively interpret and analyze data.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to negotiate using diplomacy, tack, and conflict resolution.
Diligence and high attention to detail.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position requires use of computer, telephones, and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Position occasionally requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment and boats from the beginning of production through the sea trails. This includes mobility to work in and around incomplete aluminium hull structures.
- Ability to lift packages, equipment, etcetera, up to 50 lbs.

- Program or Department Contractual Performance.
- Annual performance review.
RELATIONSHIPS
The Buyer IV will be based in Portland, CT, and report directly to the Program Manager. Other Birdon Directors, President, and advisors may provide additional direction and duties from time to time.
Your communication and direct contact with Birdon clients are an important aspect of this position. It is your responsibility to ensure that Birdon's values and interests are maintained during your relationship with clients, subcontractors, visitors, suppliers, and employees.
