Pathway Advisor

READY TO SUCCEED
Santa Monica, CA
  • $67,000 to $77,000 Yearly
  • Full-Time
Job Description
Who We Are:
The average graduation rate from a four-year college in America is over 60%.  However, it is only 20% for first-generation students and a mere 4% for foster youth. 25% of foster youth graduates will be homeless after graduation.

At Ready to Succeed, we are changing these ratios everyday, one student at a time.

Ready to Succeed (RTS) empowers first-generation and foster youth college students to graduate, launch and accelerate their careers, and reach their full potential. We offer our RTS Scholars a unique combination of personalized college and career coaching, connections to industry professionals, placements in paid internships, and access to financial and mental health resources.

Our program is a proven path to career success.

About the PATHWAY ADVISOR role at Ready to Succeed:

If Career Advisors are the “bread” of RTS, Pathway Advisors are the “butter.” Pathway Advisors work with scholars who have completed the foundations of career readiness with their Career Advisor and are ready for experiential learning opportunities, inclusive of internships, research opportunities, jobs, and networking with employers and professionals.

Pathway Advisors will promote scholar success and reduce barriers to achievement by: identifying new employment partners and volunteer professionals, developing and managing current partner and volunteer relationships, hosting professional development events (such as industry nights and company site visits), and increasing a scholar’s social capital by connecting them with volunteer professionals.

Beyond developing and maintaining employer partnerships, the Pathway Advisor also supports scholars in preparation for experiential learning opportunities through critical skill-building, including training and communications coaching in preparation for the opportunities obtained (informational interviews, internship/job interviews, networking nights, etc).

The career pathways this role will focus on are: Communications, PR, + Marketing; Entertainment, Music, + Film; Non-profits + Education; and Law/Government.

How your skills and passion will come to life at Ready to Succeed:
  • Create, maintain, steward relationships with new and existing RTS Employment partners and employment training programs, specifically in the career pathways listed above.
  • Steward the internship and full-time placement process from beginning to end (matching youth to potential placements; assuring the receipt of quality cover letters, résumés and, as appropriate, portfolios or reels; forwarding applicants to prospective employers; tracking; etc.).
  • Provide structured advising on employment/internship opportunities to students.
  • Connect Scholars RTS Network professionals for job shadows, mock interviews, and employment opportunities.
  • Work with RTS Career Advisors to identify and track students who are internship-ready and successfully match with employment partners and opportunities.
  • Develop and execute Pathway-specific programming, such as industry/pathway panels, company site visits, networking nights, etc.

  • 2 - 3 years of experience in career services with college students and/or underserved populations; career mentoring, programming, nonprofits and advocacy, or equity and inclusion programs.
    • In-house company recruitment experience, particularly with internships and early careers, will be considered in place of college or non-profit advising
  • An understanding of internship and entry-level employment opportunities in the Entertainment, Non-Profit, Education, and Law/Government sectors.
