DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the leadership and direction of the building Principal, and in cooperation with teachers and support staff, the Student Advisor provides visible and effective leadership to the learning and teaching activities in the school to which they are assigned.
In order to meet the District Goals supporting the success of all community Unit School District 300 Students, the Student Advisor will:
  • Be expected to follow a professional day with similar administrative work hours.
  • In addition to the LEAD contractual work dates; this position may be required to work up to 5 additional dates prior to the start of the school year and/or at the end of the school year. These dates will be compensated at the employee's per diem.
  • Selected individuals will be required to successfully minimally complete the trainings listed below as soon as applicable.
  • Assist the principal and school leadership team with developing and supporting overall school-wide goals, projects, and instructional programs
  • Assist the principal with the development of effective professional development for teachers and support staff in the building
  • Coordinate the problem-solving process in the building, including the development, maintenance, and distribution of all problem-solving documentation
  • Assist the building principal and teachers in resolving problems/issues/concerns that affect student classroom performance and general school behavior
  • Assist the building principal and teachers in developing and implementing appropriate and proactive student discipline procedures in the school
  • Assist the principal with building operations and maintenance issues. In this capacity, they serve as the point of contact for facilities rentals, purchasing, custodial, and maintenance departments.
  • Attend special education and 504 meetings, problem-solving meetings, parent meetings, and other building meetings as necessary
  • Attend after school and other activities beyond the school day including but not limited to (PTO/PTC meetings, extracurricular events, parent/teacher nights, orientation events, supply drop off) as necessary.
  • Serve on District and building committees as necessary.
  • Contribute to the general morale of the staff and maintain appropriate and positive relationships with staff within the school.
  • Provide timely, positive and effective communication with parents.
  • Assume responsibility for personal professional growth and development, for keeping current with the literature and new research findings and improved pedagogical techniques, and for attending appropriate professional meetings and conventions.
  • Serve as the responsible staff member in the short-term absence of the principal from the building
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as assigned by the building principal.
