Overview

Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail-oriented Scientific Program Manager to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT), Autoimmunology and Mucosal Immunology Branch (AMIB).

Technical Requirements:

  • Work actively with AMIB Program Officers to support their acquisition and development of critical job skills, including:
    • Navigation of NIH and NIAID information systems (QVR, PMM, NPARS, GARD, RTMS, etc.).
    • Advise investigators on review outcomes, NIAID policies, overcoming obstacles and developing career-sustaining research programs.
    • Review of applications and preparation of checklists for payment of new grants and noncompeting renewals.
    • Development of initiatives to meet emerging needs.
    • Handle special considerations (foreign grants, human subjects research and compliance, administrative supplements, appeals of review, etc.).
  • Work cooperatively with AMIB Program Officers in selection of applications to be nominated for selective payment, bridge funding, and MERIT awards and on development of justifications and presentations to Council.
  • Coordinate program staff responses to periodic divisional requests such as scientific advances, topics for Council open sessions, and nominations of new members to Council.
  • Participate in AMIB, DAIT and NIAID regular and ad hoc staff meetings and meetings with visiting scientists or other NIAID visitors.
  • Maintain individual areas of scientific expertise through literature study and seminar attendance.
  • Provide expert opinion on scientific questions in the fields of autoimmune diseases, immune tolerance, inborn errors of immunity or other immune-mediated DAIT projects.

Specific Qualifications:

  • PhD degree is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Prior experience as a Program Officer with responsibility for autoimmunity or mucosal immunology is required.
