Senior Mechanical Engineer - Cambridge

Cambridge, MA 02138

Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.

The client is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to design, implement and document the key components and systems of medical devices, from initial concept through to commercialization, in collaboration with worlds leading medical institutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly responsible for mechanical design and documentation of medical device product, including consideration of assembly procedure.
Work closely with outside component suppliers to ensure the form, fit and function of the components meet all mechanical requirements.
Provide mechanical specifications for the medical device from the required functional specifications.
Ensure all components and assemblies meet all appropriate medical device standards.
Work with manufacturing team to analyze the assembly procedure and improve the design for manufacturability and serviceability.
Provide redesigned mechanical components in view of design for manufacturability.
Work with engineers of other disciplines to define the mechanical specifications of the medical device and conduct system integration activities.
Conduct and document feasibility studies, tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, FEA and other appropriate tests on new and improved designs.
Lead and manage mechanical design verification activities for the medical device.
Produce production level assembly and part drawings for components and assemblies.
Create and manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) for components and assemblies in the medical device.
Evaluate and make recommendations for the selection of contract manufacturers for the medical device.
Provide documentation of inventions for patent applications.
Review alternative technology IP as it relates to the design process.

Hybrid - This position offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the office 4 days a week and an option to work from home one day out of the week (unless a specific business need arises requiring in office attendance on other days). Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.



Requirements

1. BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

2. 5 years of experience in design of products or prototypes of medical device and/or precision motion.

3. Excellent modeling and drawing skills using Solidworks, including proficiency with assemblies that contain dozens of parts.

4. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to others in different functions, at various levels.

5. Experience in the medical device industry and an FDA regulated industry.

6. Travel is required at a minimal frequency. (Only occasionally throughout the year.)
