Job Description

Position Summary

ISI Professional Services is seeking a Construction Manager - Mechanical Engineer (CM-ME) in New York, NY who can provide both construction management and mechanical engineering expertise. The ideal candidate will possess experience reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions. Experience in the resolution of unforeseen site and design conditions/problems and propose cost effective technical solutions, as well as experience conducting inspections and inventories of such structures to identify and note deficiencies, problems, or the general physical condition of such structures.

  • Provide planning, design, and construction support for restoration of the facility, related renovations, some aspects of the immediate recovery operations, and facility impact costs required as a result of Super-storm Sandy.
  • Supports Project Managers/Senior Resident Engineers in monitoring project progress and identifies potential problems.
  • Develops recommendations and strategies to address issues applying knowledge of current design and construction methodologies.
  • Serves individually and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for data management, analysis, and support on complex project issues and problems.
  • Applies project and construction management knowledge to meet field needs while managing issues on several projects simultaneously.
  • Assist the Hospital Recovery and Renovations Project’s Senior Resident Engineer in performing monitoring and inspection of construction for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Monitor and advise CFM on coordination of contract issues and develop/maintain an integrated master schedule for the overall program.
  • Compiles reports using various data to ensure accuracy and provides expertise on the development of metrics and solutions to mitigate risks associated with major construction projects.
  • Draft and distribute project updates and facilitating team communication.
  • Possess experience and the ability to liaise with project stakeholders about project requirements, timelines, and administrative reporting.

 Essential Job Functions

  • Knowledge of all aspects of commercial hospital mechanical construction including but not limited to underground mechanical installation, medical gas systems, domestic water systems, chilled water systems, and steam systems.
  • Knowledge of low Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, testing and balancing, operations, sheet metal duct systems and control systems including direct digital controls.
  • Knowledge of conveying systems including electric dumbwaiters and materials lifts, electric traction elevators, hydraulic elevators, pneumatic tube systems, and uniform dispensing equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design and installation for specialized medical and laboratory equipment including but not limited to MRI, PET, CT, audiometric booths, fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, and sterilization equipment.
  • Ability to provide cost estimates and take-offs for contract modifications.
  • Ability to determine compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment and installed work with contract requirements and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of building, safety, and environmental codes.
  • Experience in reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions.
  • Experience in the resolution of unforeseen site and design conditions/problems and propose cost effective technical solutions.
  • Shall have experience conducting inspections and inventories of such structures to identify and note deficiencies, problems, or the general physical condition of such structures.
  • Working knowledge of environmental, civil, safety, architectural and mechanical fields.
  • Knowledge of governmental contracting procedures, principles, guidelines and public law.
  • Preferred that the CM-ME shall possess experience working in the state of New York.
  • Preferred that the CM-ME shall possess commercial healthcare experience and strongly preferred that the CM-ME possess healthcare experience supporting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

 Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • The CM-ME shall possess a degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • The CM-ME shall have 5 years experiencing practicing Mechanical engineering. (10 years’ experience strongly preferred).
  • CM-ME shall have 5 years’ experience inspecting Mechanical construction.
  • The CM-ME shall possess a certificate demonstrating completion of the OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training Class.

Work is performed onsite at the VA Manhattan hospital working with team
