Who are we? An Introduction

Deaconess seeks to create conditions where liberation is the lived reality within seven generations. A ministry of the United Church of Christ, Deaconess has invested more than $100 million to improve the health of the St. Louis community since 1998. Our grants and cultivated relationships support the accelerated change in conditions through policy, advocacy, and/or organizing efforts building and wielding power to transform systems to respond to the will of the people. The Foundation's advocacy and grantmaking footprint includes St. Louis City, St. Louis, Jefferson, St. Charles and Franklin Counties in Missouri and Madison, St. Clair, and Monroe Counties in Illinois.  Deaconess Center is community event space and home to three regional non-profits. The Center's mission is to build power to advance child well-being in the St. Louis region by strengthening alliances for child-friendly public policy, increasing citizen contact with policy makers, positioning youth and organizers to move systems and engaging faith communities in child advocacy. Deaconess Center is open to host convenings Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and occasionally on Saturdays.

Day to day as a Receptionist (Part-Time, In-Person)

As a Part-Time Receptionist at Deaconess Foundation in St. Louis, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment for all visitors. Your responsibilities will include greeting guests with warmth and hospitality, ensuring a positive customer service experience. Additionally, you will assist with coordinating deliveries, welcoming individuals attending meetings and events, supporting the setup of rooms and audiovisual technology for various occasions, and closing the building at the end of the day.

Your attention to detail and dedication to providing excellent service will contribute to the smooth operation of our organization's daily activities.

Are you a good fit for this Receptionist (Part-Time, In-Person) job?

To excel as a Part-Time Receptionist at Deaconess Foundation in St. Louis, candidates should possess a High School diploma or GED, along with prior experience in a receptionist, customer service, or similar administrative role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with audiovisual equipment and virtual meeting software is essential. Strong communication skills, a service-oriented mindset, and a professional demeanor are crucial for success in this role. Responsibilities include:

  • Close the Deaconess Center daily and make sure that systems are operating as expected.
  • Greet and welcome visitors in a warm and hospitable manner while monitoring entrances and providing general information and assistance to visitors.
  • Coordinate and support events at Deaconess Center including setting up rooms.
  • Working with vendors.
  • Assisting with technology needs.
  • Support building maintenance by working with building management and vendors as needed to ensure the facility including the conference rooms, the main lobby and the front desk is clean and organized.
  • Coordinate distributing mail, packages, and deliveries.
  • Maintain visitor and vendor logs.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • May coordinate hospitality for organizational events and assist with ad hoc tasks and projects as needed.
