CNC Programmer/Machinist

Plans and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

· Responsible for total machine setup, programming, operation, maintenance, and safety.

· Ability to interpret complicated drawings of tooling, fixturing and machine components.

· Perform a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances on CNC and Non-CNC equipment.

· Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished work piece.

· Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture properly and in a timely manner.

· Selects and installs cutting tools for lathe and milling machining centers.

· Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.

· Ability to adjust machine feeds, speeds, and/or tooling to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions/conditions out of tolerance while operating in a safe manner.

· Ability to work with little supervision and direction. Must be self motivated and able to meet timelines as planned.

· Ability to assemble tooling and/or material requirements to complete jobs, send quotations to outside vendors as needed, and follow up on outside contracted work until completion.

· Responsible to maintain and clean tooling/parts/equipment, and to order replacement or PM items as required.

· Observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.

· Must have own basic hand tools and measuring devises. Machine specific tools will be provided and will remain property of ABI.

· Ability to measure workpiece for conformance to specifications.

· Ability to work without drawings at times to help get inoperable machines/tools back into production quickly.

· Must be able to work frequent overtime as needed.

· Other duties as assigned

A) EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma (GED) or equivalent. Certification from technical school for basic machining, fabricating, and programming.

  • Minimum 2 years experience programming and operating a CNC machining center and CNC Lathe.
  • Minimum 5 years experience operating other machine shop tools and equipment (mill, lathe, surface grinder, etc...).
  • Minimum 2 years experience with FeatureCam or comparable program.
