Special Inspector - Engineering Technician (CMT)

ESP Associates, Inc. (ESP) is seeking a Special Inspector / Engineering Technician to join our North Charleston location. This individual will perform inspection and testing services related to, but not limited to soils, foundations, reinforced concrete, structural masonry, fireproofing and/or post‑tensioned concrete. Responsibilities:

• Review and understand project related drawings, specifications, and applicable building codes
• Perform Special Inspections in the field for project document and code compliance
• Perform routine and advanced field tests in accordance with ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, DOT or other standards
• Review and understand project related drawings and specifications
• Document observations and inspections of construction including discrepancy notices for non-compliant items
• Communicate effectively with ESP project staff and project construction team
• Report inspections and test results through ESP’s field data collection software

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma, GED, or Associate Degree required
• One or more years of experience in inspection and construction testing of soil, concrete, masonry and/or asphalt materials
• Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Certification preferred.
• ACI Field Grade I Certification preferred.
• ICC Certifications, preferred (any of below):
  1. ICC Soils
  2. ICC Reinforced Concrete
  3. ICC Structural Masonry
  4. ICC Spray-Applied Fireproofing
  5. ICC Structural Steel and Bolting
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
• NICET, DOT, and other applicable certifications will be considered beneficial in the role
• Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.
