Job Description

The Vehicle Mechanic/Technician supports the R&D group’s daily efforts in a product development department. The job includes mechanical work on vehicles new and old, technical writing of instruction sheets, project documentation including notes, pictures and calculations for new product development, product testing and reverse engineering. Automotive performance experience is desirable.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

All work is performed under the direction of a supervisor.

  • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and vehicle subsystems.

  • Remove and install components. Replace existing parts with development prototypes.

  • Inspecting and measuring parts for fittment.

  • Conducting product test protocol.

  • Assisting with prototype inventory.

  • Creating reports and summaries. Ensuring communications.

  • Writing or revising technical instructions.

  • Assisting as needed with procedures, tasks, training, and communications as directed.

Primary Objectives:

  • Practice Safe work procedures and adhere to safety all applicable standards and procedures.

  • Contribute daily to the On-Time product development objectives through timely completion of assigned work.

  • Contribute to the Department operations performance by assisting as needed with all technical documents.

  • Contribute to the test and development efforts by assisting technical resources with product tests, test vehicles, test specs and test execution.

  • Contribute to a culture of excellence with professionalism, good work ethic, and a positive attitude.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Job Requirements

  • Capable with vehicle mechanics and systems.

  • Provide your own basic hand tools to do mechanical work.

  • Able to learn procedures and follow instructions.

  • Knowledge of vehicle lift and safe practices.

  • Able to use computer, e-mail, and office software.

  • Able to write safe instruction sheets for vehicle work.

  • Able to multi-task and accept frequent interruptions.

  • Capable with engineering mathematics.

  • Excellent communications with co-workers at all levels.

Education and Experience

  • Technical vehicle training, mechanic experience, or automotive technical degree.

  • Prefer three years experience in a mechanic role.

  • Knowledge of urethane casting process is a plus.

  • Computer literacy is required.

  • English – Spanish is a plus.

A majority of the work is performed in a workshop environment working with a vehicle and vehicle lifting equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving lifts, vehicle lifts, production machinery, machine shop and other machinery while in the factory. The noise level in the primary work environment is usually moderate. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal. The employee will be required to use basic PPE to control dust, heat or noise when entering the factory.
