THE POSITION:

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant - Brighton – Full-time - No weekends

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside our Occupational Therapists (OT) staff in a variety of therapy settings
  • Implement and put into action the OT's treatment plans for patients
  • Work with pediatric and adult patients to improve and help them overcome the obstacles of daily activities
  • Assist our OT staff in identifying and assessing patients' skills and abilities in fine and gross motor function, sensory registration and processing, and activities of daily living
  • Administer treatment plans and programs designed by our OTs
  • Assist in the development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments in accordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by our OTs
  • Counsel patients and their families on what to do following treatment
  • Observe the patients before, during and after therapy and report notes to the OT
  • Assign specific exercises for the patient and help the patients do these exercises
  • Use devices such as walkers, and other equipment to help patients regain movement and reduce pain
  • Use a variety of techniques, including stretching exercises and massage, to treat patients
  • Assist patients when moving to and from the therapy area
  • Help patients to improve their quality of life by finding solutions to their problems
  • Assist with teaching patients, family members or other caregivers’ skills and techniques to help with the patients’ treatment program
  • Knowledge of body mechanics for moving, lifting, or transferring patients 
  • Assist in various clinical responsibilities effectively and efficiently
  • Work well independently and as a team member
  • Strong drive for improving and working on professional development 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral 
  • Compassionate and kind demeanor 
  • Excellent coaching and communication skills, both vocal and written
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with patient and healthcare databases
  • Capacity to build tailored instruction strategies


Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) therapy program – New grads welcome!
  • 1+ years’ experience preferred
  • Experience working with pediatrics and adults
