Position Summary:
Facilitate customer interactions and aid in their selection and acquisition of building materials.
Essential Functions:
- Customer Service
- Recommend and advise on various products and services.
- Input material lists into the computer system.
- Handle special orders from vendor catalogs.
- Process customer payments.
- Welcome walk-in customers and respond to client calls.
- Material Estimation (on-the-job training provided)
- Interpret blueprints.
- Determine material requirements from blueprints.
- Calculate necessary material quantities.
- Input estimates into the computer system.
- Price specialty items.
- Communication
- Follow up with customers regarding ordered items and delivery.
- Coordinate with vendors concerning pricing, availability, and products.
- Communicate with Dispatch regarding delivery schedules.
- Showroom/Display Floor
- Showcase and demonstrate products in the showroom.
- Maintain and replenish literature, products, and brochures in the showroom.
- Continuous Improvement
- Advocate and contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Follow Standard Work applicable to your role and area.
- Collaborate with the team to identify process enhancement opportunities and propose solutions.
- Safety and Wellness
- Assist other employees and departments as required.
- Enhance safety awareness and knowledge for oneself and others in the workplace.
- Report all safety concerns, hazards, and incidents.
- Adhere to ergonomically sound standards in personal workspace.
- Promote safety and wellness initiatives.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred minimum of a 2-year degree in construction technology.
- Preferred 2–5 years of experience in the building/lumber industry.
- Preferred 2–5 years of customer service/sales experience in the lumber industry.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Proficient knowledge of building materials and methods.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
- Ability to interpret blueprints.
- Analytical problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft, Word, Outlook, Data Entry, etc.).
- Capability to access and comprehend industry resources.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Work primarily indoors in an office/desk setting.
- Occasional work on the retail/showroom floor.
