Position Summary

The Manufacturing / Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing operations to deliver improved service and cost on a foundation of safety and quality. This role will provide mechanical support across the Operations team to troubleshoot and solve mechanical issues as well as coach technical concepts to production leadership, maintenance mechanics, and line technicians.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Focus on manufacturing operations to increase efficiency, productivity, and equipment reliability. Leverage knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials to provide recommendations for corrective and preventative actions.
  • Subject matter expert for technical tools and methodologies. Leverage expertise to develop robust equipment maintenance programs supporting Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiative.
  • Coach/train Manufacturing front line leaders, mechanics, line technicians, and semi-skilled positions on proper operation, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment.
  • Interface with R&D, Product Execution, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing on the design for manufacturability, process capability of new product or extension to support 'fill the factory' initiative.
  • Create manufacturing capabilities database to understand gaps to customer needs / business trends. Make recommendations on expanded capability based on gap analysis.
  • Participate in capital planning discussions and make recommendations to expand equipment capability for future business opportunities and improve overall efficiency.
  • Submit Capital Expense Requests (CERs) with required financial ROI (Return on Investment) calculations. Once approved, ROI must be tracked and reported to ensure realized savings.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) process for capital projects and equipment modifications / upgrades.
  • Responsible for engineering documentation, specifications, engineering quality and required data for assigned projects.
  • Create documentation such as standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, changeover procedures, etc. to deliver reliable and predictable manufacturing processes.
  • Improves manufacturing safety, quality, and performance by analyzing and improving ergonomics, workflow, tooling, space requirements, equipment, and plant layout.

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3-5 years of Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electro-mechanical systems including PLC interface with rotating assemblies, power transmissions, gears, and bearings.
  • Experience with design including material selection and geometric dimensioning/tolerance.
  • Project management skills with ability to lead concept to validation.
  • Experience in problem solving and development of action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Ability to combine advanced technical knowledge with effective communication skills.
  • Experience in Consumer-Packaged Goods or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of 2D & 3D solid modeling preferred (AutoCad/Inventor).
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to work with a sense of urgency.
