Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a non-exempt position responsible for assisting the Property Manager with leasing affordable housing units to prospective tenants. The position involves verifying information necessary to determine initial eligibility in accordance with housing program requirements, performing annual reviews to recertify continued eligibility for public housing, determining correct tenant rent calculations, coordinating the orientation of new tenants, and performing general office duties and clerical tasks related to the operation of the management office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position would normally be gained through the equivalent of a high school diploma and two years of clerical experience. Must demonstrate a typing skill of at least 30 words per minute. Familiarity with database management software systems and telephone etiquette. Prior experience as a leasing agent in affordable housing industry highly desired.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to the occupancy of SLHA properties, including lease provisions, and procedures to certify eligibility for housing and calculate correct tenant rent.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, typing, grammar, and data entry skills, filing procedures and operation of office equipment.
  • Skill in organization, project and time management.
  • Ability to meet with prospective tenants to show properties and leasing agreements; interview tenants and obtain verification of income, maintain accurate and complete files for all tenants.
  • Assist in conducting annual re-examinations of income and family composition, examining rental units and informing maintenance staff of issues through a computerized work order system.
  • Ability to maintain good communications with residents, visitors and others having business with the development by phone, email and in person; answer routine questions and explain standard policies, procedures, practices and regulations; screen calls, visitors and redirect as necessary; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to accept rent payments, security deposits and other payments and fees.
  • Skill in addressing tenant complaints and concerns in coordination with the Property Manager and maintenance staff.
  • Ability to open and route mail, type forms, reports and general correspondence, order supplies and equipment as needed, accurately record and update current and prospective tenant information in computer database, move, store, and retrieve records, supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a teamwork environment.
  • Must have and maintain a current driver's license and be insurable under the Authority's automobile insurance.
