Job Summary:

The Director of Training and Development is responsible for leading the training and development initiatives within the organization, ensuring team members receive the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles and grow their personal and professional skills. This role involves supervising the People and Culture Manager and aligning training efforts with hotel brand standards and company expectations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise the People and Culture Manager, providing guidance, support, and leadership in their role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the People and Culture Manager in advancing the company’s recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and engagement initiatives.
  • In addition to hotel brand trainings, develop and implement training programs and initiatives to enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of team members across all departments and hotels.
  • Identify training needs and gaps through performance reviews, feedback mechanisms, and talent assessments.
  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars, utilizing a variety of delivery methods, including Parks University, and instructional techniques to engage participants and maximize learning outcomes.
  • Develop and oversee performance management processes and systems to evaluate team member performance, provide constructive feedback, and set performance goals and objectives.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers and supervisors on performance management best practices, including conducting effective performance reviews and addressing performance issues.
  • Lead talent review and succession planning processes to identify high-potential team members, assess future leadership needs, and develop talent pipelines for key roles.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to create development plans and career paths for high-potential employees, ensuring opportunities for growth and advancement within the organization.
  • Monitor progress and track outcomes of talent development initiatives, adjusting strategies as needed to support company goals and objectives.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members in career development planning, including identifying career goals, assessing skills and competencies, and exploring development opportunities.
  • Facilitate career development workshops, networking events, and mentoring programs to help team members enhance their professional capabilities and advance their careers within the organization.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information and concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in instructional design principles, training methodologies, and adult learning theory.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build positive working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of talent management best practices, including performance management, succession planning, and career development.
  • Familiarity with hospitality industry standards and practices, particularly in alignment with Hilton and Marriott expectations.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or Hospitality-related field required.
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or similar certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in training and development, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience in the hospitality industry or similar service-oriented environment is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to different hotel locations as needed for training and development activities.

Title:

  • Please note that upon hire, this position will be titled as Director of People and Culture.
