Job Description
The Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (NA / HHA) Training Instructor leads classroom instruction and clinical training for students in the NA / HHA Training Program. They are responsible for teaching lab skills and delivering lecture presentations, as well as overseeing clinical practicums at a long-term care facility for nursing assistant students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide classroom and laboratory instruction for students.
- Follow established curriculum and make modifications needed for students, ensuring that training adheres to DPH standards and best educational practices.
- Track daily attendance and enter information into program database(s).
- Assess skill level and knowledge acquisition of students on a continuing basis with observation and testing; including student proficiency in nursing assistant core skills, completing documentation of the date when the skill was demonstrated on the checklist.
- Complete progress reports at mid and end points of training utilizing information from quizzes and the nursing assistant core skills checklist and document in the students’ files.
- Monitor students’ patient care assignments in a long-term clinical setting during the training period, ensuring that patients’ plan of care and safety is maintained throughout the process.
- Provide updates and report concerns to the Program Manager / Lead Instructor.
- Provide supportive assistance, advice, mentoring, and role modeling as appropriate to students.
- Work is performed in an office, classroom and congregate care facility with the use of medical props and office technology. Standing, sitting, walking, pushing and pulling equipment are among the daily physical functions of the position.
- Participate in supervision meetings with the Program Manager and Director as needed.
- Travel to nursing homes and other local locations as needed.
- Attend internal and external meetings and trainings as required.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and exercise good decision making.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts Nursing License in good standing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with educational experience requirements outlined per Massachusetts state law.
