MSR/CCRS Systems Engineer
Project Background:
Intuitive Machines is searching for a MSR/CCRS System Engineer Mars Sample Return (MSR) is a NASA-ESA mission to deliver soil and rock samples from the Mars surface for scientific analysis on Earth. The Capture, Containment, and Return System (CCRS) is a NASA component of MSR, managed by the Goddard Space Flight Center, which will capture the Mars samples and return them safely to Earth.
Responsibilities:
Provide support for development and management of system architecture, including development of requirements, concept of operations, internal and external interfaces, plans for verification, integration, test, and operations, and support to architecture and engineering trade studies and related technical analysis, for the CCRS Project.
Coordination with MSR Program and international partners in definition of system architecture and interfaces. While this work primarily occurs at NASA/GSFC, it requires coordination with the Mars Sample Return Program Director Office (NASA HQ), Program Office (NASA JPL), other MSR Projects and partners (NASA LaRC, ARC, MSFC), and ESA Partner (ESA ESTEC) and their prime contractor (Airbus).
Conduct and support architecture and technical trade studies, analyses, technology and engineering development/risk reduction. Conduct specific technical analyses of existing and proposed system/subsystem designs.
Review, oversight, management of design and hardware risk reduction and engineering development activities
Participate in technical meetings/design reviews as needed.
Specific System Definition & Preliminary Study Services – CCRS Systems Engineering Support
Provide system definition study services for the conceptual design and development of the Mars Sample Return system’s capture, containment, and return functions, mission requirements and technical concepts. Products may include research, operations concepts, system architecture, risk assessments, technical maturity assessment, risk reduction. Reports are documented and results to be provided to the TM at the GSFC
Traveling internationally to meet with international partners.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
BS Degree in Engineering
>3 years of experience developing and analyzing interface requirements between a complex NASA sample manipulation payload for a ESA/Airbus-provided host spacecraft with a planetary mission profile.
Experience with system level trades involving mass, powerand other technical resources, mission timeline, considerations and constraints with solar electric propulsion that are conducted with NASA project/program offices and ESA international partners.
Ability to work independently and directly with Program and international partner staff on behalf of the CCRS Project.
