Evans & Dixon is currently seeking to add a Paralegal to our expanding & fast paced Johnson County office. As a Paralegal, you will be responsible for handling and maintaining cases from start to finish. You will provide support to the attorneys, organize and maintain case files, manage caseload requirements, and monitor budgets, timelines, and billing. There is frequent client contact & medical record review and analysis. Your responsibilities will include handling all aspects of the case including secretarial and paralegal tasks. Successful candidates will have a durable work ethic, superior ability to multitask, and enjoy working in a fast pace and intellectually stimulating setting.

Gain valuable and real-world legal experience by working alongside attorneys practicing in state and federal courts in the Midwest, and participate in all phases of the litigation process, from the initiation of a case, to fact gathering, discovery, through trial and post-trial findings and appeals. Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review confidentiality agreements with attorney supervision.
  • Providing administrative, litigation, and ongoing research support to attorneys along with investigating facts on each of those cases assigned to the attorney(s).
  • Assist attorney(s) in preparation for hearings and trials by preparing arguments, motions, contracts and agreements.
  • Research legal issues, regulations, legal articles, and relevant supporting laws by using online and offline sources.
  • Conduct legal research and draft and drafting as requested.
  • File and organize exhibitions, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel.
  • Summarize interrogatories, testimonies, and depositions to aid attorney before and during trial.
  • Obtain affidavits and other formal legal documents
  • Complete investigations such as calling clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside parties to schedule interviews, meetings and depositions.
  • Maintain all records for each case.
  • Review trial transcriptions
  • Perform special tasks as needed, which may include but are not limited to, learning new computer applications, such as litigation management software and databases.
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents
  • Get affidavits and other formal statements that may be used as evidence in court
  • Help lawyers during trials by handling exhibits, taking notes, or reviewing trial transcripts
  • File exhibits, briefs, appeals and other legal documents with the court or opposing counsel
  • Call clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, and depositions
  • Provide administrative support
  • Handle communication with clients
  • Maintain contact lists
  • Monitor deadlines and juggle calendars
  • Provide support for general office administration

Skills and Specifications:
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent written communication skills to edit and proofread correspondence and legal documents
  • Knowledge or familiarity of certain court procedures
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be well organized, detail-orientated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing work priorities
  • Ability to type accurately and efficiently from draft or dictation with a minimum of 50 wpm
  • Ability to deal professionally and effectively with both internal and external clients on all levels
  • Ability to analyze routine administrative tasks and duties
  • Ability to keep a Medical recording tracking log

Education and Qualifications:
  • Must understand and maintain complex litigation
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology and legal writing
  • Experience in product liability and (or) wrongful death is preferred, but not required
