Freelance Senior Graphic Designer
The Sr Studio Artist (SSA) will demonstrate—through skill, performance, and professional demeanor—a commitment to deliver work that represents the highest degree of accuracy achievable from a technical point of view. Work will be performed according to established agency job flow procedures and will meet deadline commitments. The SSA will communicate relevant information clearly and efficiently (both verbally and in writing) to appropriate parties in a timely manner. The SSA will back up the Production Manager when workload requires it, and cover for the Production Manager when necessary. The SSA will work with internal agency staff, client counterparts, and outside vendors to ensure accurate delivery of all assigned projects. The SSA will stay up-to-date on changing technologies and techniques and will take a proactive role in department progress, assess workload and project priorities, and help train junior staff.
Primary Job Responsibilities—Sr Studio Artist
- Manage workload—take responsibility for completing work correctly within the timeframe required and keeping manager informed of timing needs and risks
- Work late night and weekend shifts in rotation with colleagues in the department as needed
- Undertake additional responsibilities as opportunities arise and take a proactive approach to problem solving and building consensus
- Actively follow up with the art directors to execute projects efficiently and cost effectively
- Take initiative to develop new skills in various digital mediums and agency technology advancements. Take full advantage of agency training classes
- Present a helpful, professional, and approachable attitude at all times, maintaining the department standard of “customer service” to the rest of the agency
- Contribute to teamwork and team responsibilities consistently (monthly supplies, printer/paper maintenance, volunteering for weekend work and late nights when not scheduled). Participate in team discussions and offer recommendations
- Take ownership and pride in work; double check work, ensure questions are answered, see jobs through, follow-up consistently until completed
- Prepare, review, and approve all checklists, reports, separations, and color-breaks before routing work
- Take a calm, independent approach to troubleshooting difficult jobs and technical glitches, while developing and sharing innovative solutions
- Manage and bill time accurately. Proactively seek work from the Director and/or peers to assure continuous job flow and minimize downtime between assignments, arrive on time, and proactively work through end of shift
- Initiate communication or questions to assure clear direction and accuracy
- Assist in the preparation of workable dummies for review and presentation
- Monitor and approve the accuracy of mechanicals, color separations, die strikes, and all other production phases
- Work with Project Management and Account Services regarding scheduling and timelines
- Coordinate jobs through the production process in an organized and efficient manner

Qualifications
- Must have a college degree
- Must have 4–7 years agency experience in studio advertising/production services
- Must be technically proficient with the ability to teach and troubleshoot in all pertinent programs; eg, Adobe InDesign, Digital Publishing Suite, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Acrobat. Should also have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Must have a solid understanding of the production process as it relates to preparing clean electronic mechanicals including die strikes, color separations, and the printing process
- Must have good design and typography skills
- Must have superior communication skills—both spoken and written
- Must be able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Must have pharmaceutical/healthcare advertising experience
