Mechanical Engineer III - Solar

TECSI Solar Inc. is a boutique engineering firm specializing in the development of solar related products. We help solar companies design, prototype, test, manufacture, and certify new and novel solar products such as PV modules, racking, trackers, and balance of system components. We are looking for a hands-on mechanical engineer with 4-7 years of work experience doing product design in the solar industry. They should have experience with codes such as ASCE 7, IBC, IRC and standards from UL, ASTM, NEC, and ICC. Experience with residential and commercial rooftop product design and installation is preferred with experience with ground mount products like trackers a plus. Plastics experience is a plus. TECSI has a small but extensive machine shop for prototyping and testing new products. The applicant needs to have experience with shop tools and have a high level of confidence in shop related activities such as milling, drilling, sawing, and metal working. In addition, communication and writing skills and a can-do attitude are a must as is a mechanical engineering degree, or equivalent.
Typical activities include:
- Product design and validation testing
- Setup manufacturing line and train line workers for novel products.
- CAD modeling using Solidworks
- Prototype builds
- Create 3d printed parts
- Operate our shop equipment including CNC Mill, temp chamber, and UTM
- Write test plans, conduct tests, and write test reports
- Receive quotes from and evaluate manufacturing partners
- Engineering calculations to determine component capacities
- Specification of mechanical hardware and electromechanical devices
- Coding in python & visual basic
- Design, program, and use data acquisition systems
- Field visits to solar power plants for installation, inspection, and failure analysis
- Certify products to UL 61730, 61215, 2703, 9703, 3703, 1741, 7103 and others
This opening is for a full-time salaried position. Salary will be based upon experience and skill set. Hours are flexible so long as you get done what you need in the time frame.
