Utility Plant Chemist Associate (P1) This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as an Utility Plant Chemist, Associate (P1) or next highest level Utility Plant Chemist (P2). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate. What You'll be Doing: * Contribute to achieving day-to-day objectives required for plant chemistry programs; reviewing data, monitoring performance, communicating with other departments, maintaining regulatory compliance, writing reports, managing special projects, training personnel, and maintaining analytical equipment and instrumentation. * Engage in comprehensive on-the-job training and attend formal training to become proficient in plant chemistry programs. * Assist in: * Evaluation and improvement of the safety of quality control operations, and development of safe operating procedures. * Plant management with the development and maintenance of quality related preventive maintenance programs. * The investigation and evaluation of new chemicals, equipment, processes, and procedures to improve quality control program, reduce costs and risk and perform calculations for regulatory reports and chemical evaluations. * Assist with inspections of various plant systems as needed; compile and analyze data for submitting conclusions in written report form. * Analyze and treat boiler water, cooling tower water, chilled water, potable water, condensate, deionized water, process waste water, lube oil, coal, ash, and other plant systems in order to maintain proper operating limits. * Respond to plant chemistry issues, chemical spills, or other emergencies on a 24-hour basis. What You Must Have: * Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related subject * One year experience in water chemistry or related field * In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience; High school diploma and five years' experience or Associate's degree and three years' experience * Able to adapt and react to emergency situations and work under pressure * Highly developed oral and written communication skills * Familiar with lab and industrial safety and personal protective equipment * Familiar with appropriate calculation procedures to monitor performance of various plant equipment * Knowledge and experience with common lab equipment and techniques * Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint * Work effectively with people from different viewpoints and backgrounds What's Nice to Have: * Knowledge of power plant quality control procedures and various inspection techniques * Previous experience with utility plant or industrial de-ionized and reverse osmosis boiler feed-water systems, boiler and chilled water quality, and lubrication oil testing Utility Plant Chemist (P2) What You'll be Doing: * Perform day-to-day activities to meet the objectives of plant chemistry programs, reviewing data, monitoring performance, communicating with other departments, maintaining regulatory compliance, writing reports, managing special projects, training personnel, and maintaining analytical equipment and instrumentation. * Evaluate and improve safety of quality control operations, and develop safe operating procedures. * Assist Plant management with the development and maintenance of quality related preventive maintenance programs. * Investigate and evaluate new chemicals, equipment, processes, and procedures to improve quality control program and reduce costs and risk.
