The primary function of a Social Worker is to take referrals for serious abuse and neglect; investigate referrals; interview customers to ascertain nature of problems and develop service plans. A substantial amount of the work performed is conducted in the field, however, the majority is performed in office writing court reports and case plans with time sensitive and legal deadlines. Incumbents enter data into computer systems in order to comply with legal and agency deadlines.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate for this position will work closely with team members of the Agency, community partners, and extended family members. He/she will have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent organization skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, maintain calm and professional performance, and demonstrate exceptional customer service working with client populations that have substance dependence, mental health, trauma, or domestic violence history. Examples of Duties
Carries a caseload of child welfare service cases; provides crisis intervention to reduce the risk to the child; observes child's developmental progress and determines best methods of dealing with behavioral problems; assists family members in resolving marital, financial, or other particular problems related to abuse; may provide specialized case services in child sexual abuse or children's group work; refers clients to other agencies and community resources; may advise parents on problems of child custody; arranges for foster home placement of children; may provide court testimony in child abuse or neglect cases; prepares case records and written reports as required; prepares and present juvenile court petitions within specified time limitations.
Social Workers may work with Foster Parents to ensure proper placements; assists to resolve issues and conflicts which may arise in the home setting; encourages poster parents to support and work with natural parents. It is important to understand that the actions you take as a Social Worker affect the lives of clients and their families.
Controversial Issues: As a Social Worker, you may be required to take actions that conflict with your own values. A Social Worker must be able to accept customers' differences and interact with them in a non-judgmental manner.
In addition to the education and experience requirements specified in the Merit Systems/Cooperative Personnel Services classification specification, Tehama County requires:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade
- Requires a valid California driver's license
The department is recruiting to fill (1) one vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Social Worker III as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
