POSITION TITLE: COURT REPORTER
(Full-time, Part-time 3/5, Daily as needed)


SALARY: Full-time: $10,074.00 - $10,351.18 Monthly
Part-time 3/5: $6,044.40 - $6,210.70 Monthly
Daily as needed: $463.18 - $475.92 Full Day
$231.59 - $237.96 Half Day

ABOUT THE COURT

Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 40 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,500 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $855 million. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,084 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties.




ABOUT THE POSITION
Court Reporters are responsible for providing accurate verbatim reporting of proceedings in all required or requested court hearings, which include civil, criminal, juvenile, and grand jury. Reporters are responsible for providing realtime reporting services to judicial officers, preparing transcripts in accordance with applicable Government Codes, Rules of Court, and Statues, and provide read back upon request.

COURT REPORTER NEW HIRE INCENTIVES:
More than $70,000 in new hire incentives available to Machine Stenographers and Voice Writers:

  • Signing bonus - Up to $50,000 over two years. Limited to the first 20 new Court Reporters hired
  • Student Loan and Equipment Allowance - Up to $15,000 over two years
  • Retention Bonus
  • Finder's fee for Court employees who refer Official Court Reporters - Up to $25,000


BENEFITS:
  • Equipment allowance - $500 annually
  • Reimbursement of annual California CSR license fee
  • Continuing education reimbursement costs - up to $400 per event
  • Salary negotiation for higher step placement - the Court offers Court Reporter experience credit -AND- opportunity to earn additional transcript income.
  • 2-week training and onboarding program - Includes classroom and on-the-job training. Employees learn about the Court's various areas of litigation, transcript preparation, billing procedures, and customer interactions.
  • 90-day realtime reporting acclimation period - Affords the court reporter the opportunity to work in different areas of litigation and build litigation specific dictionaries.
  • Reciprocity - A special relationship that exists between certain public retirement systems in California. It is designed to protect retirement benefits when public service employees transfer to other public service jobs within a specified time.
  • Realtime certification bonus 5.5% - If qualified and where applicable.
  • Court Reporter floater bonus 5% per pay period
  • Monthly Benefit Plan - In addition to your salary, the Court provides a tax-free benefits allowance between $953.46 - $2055.05 (based on number enrolled in medical coverage) to purchase benefits. If the cost of the benefits selected is less than the allowance, the employee receives the difference as additional taxable pay. Available benefits include, medical, dental, disability, life and AD&D insurance, health, and dependent care spending accounts.
  • Deferred Compensation Plan (457) - Optional tax-deferred income plan that includes a match of up to 4% of employee's salary.
  • Vacation - All permanent employees are eligible to earn paid vacation based on years of service. Vacation time may not be used during the first six months of employment.
  • Sick leave - Depending on the length of service and employment categories, up to one day of full pay per month of service is accrued monthly for qualifying service.
  • Holidays - 14 days per year
  • Retirement Plan - A retirement plan is provided to full-time, permanent employees.
  • The Commuter Benefit Plan (CBP) - Allows employees to pay for eligible public transit expenses using pre-tax dollars (up to IRS limits).
  • Bereavement leave
  • Mileage reimbursement

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify, you must meet the following selection requirements at the time of filing:

  • A current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license issued by the Court Reporters Board of California
  • Realtime reporting capability*
  • Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) capability
  • Paperless writer equipped with 1 form of removable memory in addition to internal memory -OR- voice writing equipment.
  • A valid California Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

*Court Reporters are required to provide realtime reporting to judicial officers after an optional 90-day acclimation period.



DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualification. This is not a mandatory requirement:
  • Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) Certification
