The Ohio State College of Dentistry is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist for its affiliated Ohio State Dental Faculty Practice (DFP). When our faculty is not teaching the next generation of dentists, our faculty dentists provide expert care for children and adults through OSDFP and provide virtually every area of dental care available in one location.

This position functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in the College of Dentistry Ohio State Dental Faculty Practice to provide patient focused customer service and clerical support. It is responsible for pre-authorizations for medical billing; posting medical charges; taking incoming patient regarding billing; performs daily deposit for the entire practice; billing external provider for both CBCT interpretation and Oral Pathology; payment posting; management of AR for any items related to charges submitted for medical billing; management of patient and insurance refund process; coverage of check-in desk as needed; and assisting with Dental billing as need. Part of team to disseminate information to care team in regard to billing.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm

Pay Range: The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $17.10-$22.50 per hour, based on experience and education.

Required Screenings: This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

Physical Requirements: Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions. This position requires sustained periods using a keyboard and performing other computer work. Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks. Ability to lift 25 pounds with or without accommodations.

Experience & Education Requirements:

Required: HS diploma/GED and 2 years' experience with at least 6 months experience in a healthcare cash-posting environment. Proficiency with computers and related software. Efficiency with 10 key calculators. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Attention to detail.

Desired: Experience with commercial and government insurance. Knowledge of medical billing practices and procedures; skill in operating personal computer and related medical billing software; ability to deal with problems involving insurance; ability to maintain accurate records; cooperate with co-workers; knowledge of customer service skills and the ability to apply in various situations; ability to answer routine inquires and resolve complaints from patients, third party payers and doctors. Minimum of two years' experience in a medical billing environment.

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
