Description

Gryphon Scientific is seeking applicants with a PhD or equivalent in the life sciences for a Senior Analyst position in the Data Management and Communications practice. As a Senior Analyst, you will collaborate across projects in science communications and outreach, data analytics, and research and preparedness for health threats, including COVID and influenza. A core aspect of Gryphon work involves the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data and information to guide decision making and support both national and international research and preparedness and response efforts. As a Senior Analyst, you will facilitate technical working groups, develop data-driven science and risk communication strategies, and lead tasks to collect, analyze, synthesize, and visualize data collected from subject matter experts, literature, and other sources. Projects involve collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and incorporate a variety of approaches, from stakeholder coordination, science writing, social media engagement, data analytics, and systems engineering to advance scientific research, biosecurity, and biodefense initiatives. Senior Analysts have the opportunity to engage experts in STEM, apply cutting-edge technologies and methods in data management and communications, and lead stimulating projects using creativity, critical thinking, and technical excellence in a wide range of exciting fields. This position will primarily support projects in Gryphon's Data Management and Communications practice, but Senior Analysts may have the opportunity to work on projects in other practices. (Note, you will not be involved in laboratory work; there is no lab on the premises.)

Duties
  • Coordinate and moderate various technical working groups to collect information and advance strategic priorities, including development and delivery of presentations and guided discussions
  • Lead development, design, and execution of communications plans, SOPs, and approaches to foster engagement with scientists, policymakers, and the public
  • Synthesize data and information collected from many sources into communications products, technical reports, and recommendations
  • Provide oversight for social media strategy and execution for scientific programs
  • Create articles, infographics, and other written and visual products for print and web
  • Lead design of static and interactive data reports and dashboards
  • Facilitate management, analyses, and visualization of diverse datasets generated by independent investigators, including biosurveillance, basic, preclinical, and clinical data
  • Independently manage project tasks and junior staff, including the timeliness and quality of work products
  • Act as scientific liaison and technical domain area expert amongst developers, researchers, collaborators, program officers, government officials, and the public


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a life science discipline (Microbiology, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Public Health, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field) OR MS, MPH or nursing degree and equivalent experience in scientific communications
  • Experience in engagement, outreach, or science communications-leadership in student or professional organizations may qualify
  • Must have a valid passport or be willing to obtain one
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government client requirements

  • Meticulous attention to detail

Additional Skills and Experience
  • Proficiency with Adobe software, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
  • Proficiency in Excel or Tableau
  • Experience in web design or UI/UX
  • Experience conducting multi-platform communications campaigns, including social media and web
  • Experience using Python, R, or SQL
  • Infectious disease expertise, especially virology

Travel Requirement:
  • This position requires domestic and/or international travel 1-2 times a year. Travel may be required to countries with vaccination requirements for entry.
