POSITION: STUDENT LIFE & CAMPUS EVENTS COORDINATOR (ON SITE)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: STUDENT AFFAIRS MANAGER/TITLE IX

The Student Life & Campus Events Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering cocurricular and extra-curricular programs for students that align with Gnomon’s mission, policies, procedures, and standards. This will oversee student organizations, programs, and activities, and provide support to all departments through the coordination of Gnomon’s student events - both on-site and offsite. This position will help to create a supportive community that contributes to the overall experience and success of students during their tenure at Gnomon. Areas of core competencies include, but not limited to: student community engagement, event planning, and administration. Required soft-skills include, but not limited to: effective organization, self-motivated, adaptable, efficient time management, and strong interpersonal communication skills. Essential Functions, but not limited to the following:

  • Cultivate, build, and maintain the campus community by coordinating and implementing student service programs, events, and activities (New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, etc.) and off campus outings to enhance student life at Gnomon.
  • Promote a campus culture of support, diversity and inclusivity through student service and activity programming. 
  • Support departmental, student- or public-facing campus events (Graduation, Open House, etc.)
  • Support event logistics by working with the Operations team to ensure the smooth setup and breakdown
  • Coordinate campus wellness promotion strategies, such as Mental Health resources fair/stress management fair, Motivational Speaker/s, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Support consistent communication to Gnomon’s full-time and extension students through emails, student calendars, campus bulletin boards, and social media networks.
  • Serve as a general point person for day-to-day student questions related to campus activities, student resources, student procedures, and general information.
  • Serve as the Student Council Advisor and support to the Gnomon Student Clubs, while providing support for student government led events (Gnomon Club Rush week, Mixers, etc.)
  • Build and maintain student resources such as student housing and discounts to local businesses and services.
  • Assist the Student Affairs Manager with the recruitment and training of peer mentors.
  • Collaborate with departments and contribute to Student Services publications (New Student Guide, Parent Guide, Housing Guide)
  • Assists in reviewing requests for accommodations and documentation to determine reasonable academic accommodations – particularly in relation to students with learning differences/disabilities.
  • Conduct interviews or follow up sessions with new or current students that have submitted request for accommodations; determine appropriate level of service (provisional, temporary, permanent), and make appropriate recommendations/authorizations for support services and academic accommodations.
  • Assist with coordinating a wide range of academic accommodations and support services to students with varying types of disabilities to promote student success/retention/graduation.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 and M-1 students and assist the Office of Student Affairs with processing immigration documents for program extensions, Optional Practical Training, 24-Month STEM Extensions, changes of status, transfers and a variety of other documents required to help students maintain F-1/M-1 status.
  • Participate in other Gnomon events, as needed; Attend open houses and promote the school’s student services to prospective students and their families in collaboration with Admissions and Recruitment departments
  • Maintain job knowledge by attending workshops and/or participating in professional development.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality, ethics and integrity.
  • Conduct all activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards.
  • Adhere to all state, and federal accreditation and school rules and regulations regarding student recruitment.
  • Additional related duties may be assigned, as needed by the supervisor or department

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in student activity planning, student life, events or related field required
  • Experience working at a school/university required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) required
  • Entertainment, gaming, or art background a plus

  • Demonstrate personal integrity and excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact successfully with a diverse constituency, including vendors, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Must work well under pressure and be able to manage multiple projects under strict deadlines.
  • Extreme attention to detail, including top-notch organizing and multitasking skills, handle multiple projects and prioritize accordingly.  
  • Appropriately handle, sort, file confidential and sensitive information, and locate, gather, synthesize, and interpret complex information.
  • Highly collaborative with excellent work ethic to produce deliverables with speed and humility.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Read, write legibly, proofread, and follow written and oral instructions in English. Communicate clearly, effectively, and respectfully in writing and orally.
  • Strong personal accountability, problem solving and time management skills
  • Must be able to lift 25/50 pounds regularly and be able to move about on foot for extended periods
