Occupational Therapist Job Summary

We are looking for an occupational therapist with a strong desire to help people and improve their daily lives. As an occupational therapist, you will assess patients' conditions, needs, and goals to establish effective therapy and treatment plans. You will carry out treatment plans and communicate with patients, their family/friends, employers, and caregivers while being compassionate and sensitive to a patient's concerns.

Occupational Therapist Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review patient medical history
  • Assess patient home and workplace
  • Develop and implement occupational therapy treatment plans and services
  • Establish timelines, tasks, and medical needs of the patient
  • Analyze the best exercises and activities to help the patient reach goals
  • Discuss patient's goals with the patient's physicians
  • Develop plans for patients with ongoing pain and chronic conditions
  • Recommend and educate patients on medical and adaptive equipment (wheelchairs, leg braces, etc.)
  • Record patient activities, progress, and improvement
  • Maintain clinical records of all patient care; fill and document for insurance billing
  • Assist and train professional staff, nursing staff, and residents in developing therapy plans
  • Educate patient, patient's family, and patient employer (if needed) on special equipment, care, and/or needs
  • Develop a discharge plan and make referrals for additional resources

Occupational Therapist Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy, Bachelor’s degree with a certificate, or diploma for successful completion of a post-degree program in occupational therapy
  • Master's degree in occupational therapy; doctorate or enrollment in a doctoral program preferred
  • Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR) License and proof of passing the national examination administered by theNational Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy(NBCOT)
  • Continuing education classes for maintenance of certification
  • Meets all state licensure requirements
  • Two years working in care or physical rehabilitation setting
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Adaptable, flexible, and able to make quick decisions when plans change
  • Creative and innovative thinker and planner
  • Encouraging to patients and staff; able to mentor and lead
