Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Morgue Technician to join our team and provide essential support in the handling, preservation, and processing of deceased individuals. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the respectful and efficient operation of the morgue facility. Your attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and sensitivity are crucial in this position.

• Cadaver Handling: Receive, transport, and store deceased individuals with care and dignity, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and protocols.
• Autopsy Assistance: Assist forensic pathologists and medical examiners during autopsies by preparing the necessary equipment and materials, positioning the body, and collecting and labeling samples.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all activities, including the identification and tracking of bodies, autopsy findings, and personal effects.
• Preservation: Implement proper embalming, refrigeration, or other preservation methods to ensure the integrity of bodies and prevent decay.
• Facility Maintenance: Keep the morgue facility clean, organized, and in compliance with health and safety standards.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to established safety protocols and guidelines for the handling of hazardous materials, including biohazardous waste and chemicals.
• Family Interaction: Interact with grieving family members and provide emotional support, ensuring their questions and concerns are addressed with empathy and respect.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and calibration of morgue equipment, such as autopsy tables, refrigeration units, and embalming machines.
• Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and reorder as necessary to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Collaboration: Work closely with law enforcement, forensic experts, funeral directors, and other professionals involved in the handling of deceased individuals.

• High school diploma or equivalent; a relevant degree or certification in mortuary science or a related field is a plus.
• Prior experience in a morgue or funeral service setting is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy and the embalming process.
• Familiarity with autopsy procedures and medical terminology is advantageous.
• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain composure in emotionally challenging situations.
• Physical fitness and the ability to lift, move, and position bodies of varying sizes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with grieving family members.
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and using computer software for data entry.
• Knowledge of safety regulations, including those related to the handling of biohazardous materials.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Adherence to a strict code of ethics and confidentiality regarding the deceased and their families.
