Job Summary: As a Morgue Worker, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare and forensic industries by providing support in the mortuary and morgue setting. You will be responsible for handling deceased individuals with the utmost care and professionalism, ensuring their proper storage, identification, and preparation for autopsies or release to families. This position requires strong attention to detail, empathy, and the ability to maintain a respectful and organized work environment.

• Transfer and position deceased individuals with care and dignity
• Assist with the cleaning, dressing, and preservation of bodies
• Prepare bodies for autopsies, ensuring all necessary documentation is in order
• Verify the identity of deceased individuals in accordance with established protocols
• Accurately record and maintain detailed information related to each case
• Assist in the completion of death certificates and related paperwork
• Ensure proper storage and refrigeration of bodies to maintain their integrity
• Maintain an organized and clean morgue environment, adhering to sanitation and safety standards
• Assist in the retrieval and release of bodies to authorized individuals, such as family members or funeral directors
• Provide assistance to pathologists during autopsies by preparing equipment, assisting with specimen collection, and maintaining a sterile environment
• Properly clean and disinfect autopsy equipment and workspaces after use
• Adhere to all regulatory guidelines and protocols related to the handling of deceased individuals
• Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Collaborate effectively with other morgue workers, pathologists, and healthcare professionals to ensure efficient operations
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with grieving families and visitors
• Stay updated on industry standards and best practices for morgue operations through training and education

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional relevant education or certification in mortuary science is a plus
• Prior experience in a morgue, mortuary, or funeral home is preferred but not required
• Strong physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy objects (deceased individuals) while maintaining respect and sensitivity
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills to accurately document and maintain records
• Compassion, empathy, and the ability to provide emotional support to grieving families
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
• Adherence to ethical and professional standards, including confidentiality
• Knowledge of safety and sanitation regulations related to morgue operations
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as morgue services are often required 24/7
• A clean criminal background check and drug screening may be required due to the sensitive nature of the job
