Job description
Are you a Product Manager who builds? We're looking for someone with real experience using AI developer tools, shipping products in fast-moving spaces, and turning ambiguity into things that work. You'll use the platform yourself every day and build for engineers who give you direct, immediate feedback.
Our AI team sits within ES365 (Microsoft 365 Engineering Systems), and we own the Agentic Engineering platform being adopted across all of Microsoft. ES365 owns the tools and systems used by thousands of Microsoft developers who innovate across the company's largest codebases, from source control and check-in experience to build, validation, and deployment automation. Because we own the systems Microsoft engineers use every day, we can quickly test, ship, and scale new AI workflows across real engineering teams.
The ES365 AI team builds the agentic platform itself and the experiences on top of it, from the core orchestration layer and developer-facing tools to the plugin marketplace and enterprise governance. The developers and codebase owners who use these tools are your customers, and we have a tight feedback loop with them to move fast. Example workstreams have included AI-assisted large-scale codebase refactoring, automated package integrations, deep architectural Q&A over codebases, human-in-the-loop directed code changes, and enterprise governance for AI tooling at scale.
We are still early enough that the right PM will shape core product decisions, but far enough that your work can reach tens of thousands of users quickly. You'll define product vision and strategy across the platform, from how agents work under the hood to how developers discover and use them. You'll own the metrics that prove AI is changing how everyone at Microsoft works. You'll prototype with AI tools yourself, build conviction through experimentation, and ship alongside senior engineers and technical leaders who are actively building with these tools themselves. In this role, you might define the end-to-end agent experience for code changes, redesign how developers onboard to the platform, set the strategy for how we scale AI-assisted workflows across new engineering orgs, or figure out how we measure whether agents are actually improving engineering throughput.
If you are excited about AI's potential and want to shape the product that defines AI-powered developer efficiency at Microsoft, we want you in ES365 AI.
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Own product strategy, vision, and roadmap for a defined area of Microsoft's agentic platform, and drive it end-to-end from discovery through launch, adoption, and iteration.
- Use AI tools in your daily work, prototype product concepts yourself, and stay current on the fast-moving landscape of AI developer tools and agentic systems. Bring that depth to every product decision.
- Demonstrate resiliency to experiment and try multiple AI-driven product approaches that may not work, because no one has tried them before.
- Define how developers discover, adopt, and get value from the platform and its ecosystem of agents and plugins, whether that means onboarding, governance, developer experience, or scaling adoption across new engineering orgs.
- Lead with judgment, verify with data. Have a point of view on what to build, then use metrics like adoption, engagement, and productivity impact to validate it. Make the case to leadership with evidence and a clear view of what is or isn't working.
- Work closely with engineering managers, principal engineers, and technical leads to scope work, make trade-offs, and make sure the team is building the right things.
- Drive cross-team roadmap alignment and decision-making with partner teams across Microsoft working on AI, developer tooling, and engineering systems, including GitHub, DevDiv, and internal platform teams.
- Stay close to your customers. Run feedback loops with developers, pull insights from telemetry and direct conversations, and make sure the product keeps up with real needs.
- Help create a team environment with high trust, direct feedback, and room for people to do their best work.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product management, program management, or software development,
- OR equivalent experience.
- Proven experience as a Product Manager shipping developer tools, platforms, or infrastructure products end-to-end.
- A builder mindset. You use AI tools to prototype workflows, validate product ideas, or directly shape what got built, not just to draft documents faster.
- Hands-on experience with AI-powered developer tooling and coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot Workspace, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar.
- A clear point of view on what great looks like and a strong conviction on how AI is transforming the software development experience, gained through hands-on work. Turns ambiguous, fast-changing problem spaces into clear strategy, crisp requirements, and product roadmaps.
- Track record of driving product adoption at scale. You know how to move from early adopters to broad rollout and can point to the metrics that prove it.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills. You work effectively across engineering, design, data science, and leadership stakeholders.
- Comfort leading in ambiguous, fast-moving problem spaces where best practices are still being established.
- Prior experience defining product strategy for agent or plugin ecosystems, marketplaces, or extensibility platforms.
- Experience with governance, security, or compliance considerations for platforms or marketplaces, especially in an enterprise or regulated context.
- Expertise in agentic AI development patterns like multi-step reasoning, tool/function calling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Background in developer productivity metrics and instrumentation: PR velocity, lead time, developer experience measurement, or similar.
- Prior experience with enterprise-scale rollouts, including phased adoption, feedback triage, community engagement, and operational readiness at 10,000+ user scale.
- Background in developer tooling, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, or engineering systems at scale.
