Job description

Overview
The Tax & Customs Process and Technology Team ("TCPT") Transactional Tax is a global team that centrally partners with stakeholders across Microsoft to optimize global transactional tax processes, develop and maintain best in class system and tools, and enhance governance and controls to support Global Indirect Tax in managing risk and exposure across reporting and compliance.
The Tax Manager will be a member of the TCPT Transactional Tax team, providing global support to the Transaction Tax function(s) encompassing but not limited to indirect tax, withholding, fees, excise and DST. The role will also bridge cross-functional projects across TCPT, collaborating to ensure optimal end-to-end solutions related to tax planning, compliance, provision, and audit across the global indirect tax space. As a member of the broader TCPT team, this role will partner with team members on key cross-functional initiatives including data governance, documentation, and adoption of emerging Microsoft technologies.
Responsibilities
  • Support data management and Fabric backlog feature delivery, contributing to scalable, self-service transactional tax reporting through development, testing, and enhancement of data pipelines, data quality standards, and reporting models
  • Provide Vertex production support, helping to maintain system stability through issue triage, troubleshooting, and coordination with engineering and vendors
  • Assist in the design, configuration, and implementation of indirect tax determination, reporting, and compliance capabilities across Vertex, Fabric, and integrated systems
  • Deliver continuous improvement efforts, identified to drive automation, process efficiency, and standardization across tax processes and tools
  • Partner with tax teams to support monthly, quarterly, and year-end compliance cycles, helping ensure timely, accurate reporting and filings
  • Support stakeholder coordination and data gathering activities, ensuring required inputs are collected, validated, and delivered for compliance and reporting purposes

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
  • Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation or related field; J.D.; LL.M. in Taxation) AND 3+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 4+ years tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit management or tax advisory experience OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Power Platform, data transformation (e.g.: ETL), and visualization tools (e.g.: Microsoft Fabric Suite)
  • Indirect tax work experience
  • Knowledge of data best practices + proficiency with large relational datasets
  • Proficiency supporting data quality, reconciliation and reporting verification
  • Proficiency with Indirect Tax engine software (e.g.: Vertex, OneSource) and production support
  • Experience with solution design, testing, production environments, documentation, user guides, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to deliver prioritized process improvements and automation leveraging MSFT stack and AI

Tax IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $77,800 - $153,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $102,200 - $169,900 per year.
