Part Time Car Salesman

What Does a Part-Time Car Salesman Do?

A part-time car salesman works for an auto dealership to sell or lease vehicles to customers. In this position, you may work part-time hours every day or only work a few days of the week. Your hours depend on the staffing needs of the dealership. Your duties include offering car information to customers and taking them on a test drive to try out the vehicles in which they express interest. You explain the features of the automobile and offer options for financing or leasing. You may also negotiate the sales price for a car that your customer wishes to purchase.

How to Become a Part-Time Car Salesman

The qualifications that you need to become a part-time car salesman include sales skills, knowledge of automobile features, and the ability to negotiate with customers. Dealerships often require a high school diploma or GED certificate, and you can choose to pursue industry-specific education through organizations like the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA). Since your responsibilities include explaining car features, you need an in-depth knowledge of automobiles, including technical and performance specifications. Some states, such as California, require that you obtain a sales license from the DMV. Part-time salespeople need to be flexible to cover shifts when the dealership needs them.
