FQHC Jobs - What Are They and How to Get One

What Is a FQHC?

A federally qualified health center, or FQHC, provides healthcare and related health services to members of the community. These centers receive federal funding, and they are usually located in underserved communities and provide medical assistance for members of the population who would otherwise not have access to healthcare from a service provider. FQHC centers have regulations for charging medical fees. An FQHC may provide medical care as well as social services, mental health counseling, and other integrated services.

What Is the Difference Between a FQHC and an RHC?

A federally qualified health center (FQHC) and rural health center (RHC) both provide healthcare services. RHCs are in rural areas, while FQHCs may be in either rural or urban areas. Both types of clinics provide primary care services. FQHCs may provide more community and social services than RHCs. Both types of facilities receive cost-based reimbursement from Medicare. An FQHC is a nonprofit organization that is overseen by a board of directors that includes both medical professionals and community members.

What Jobs Are Available at a FQHC?

The jobs available at a federally qualified health center, or FQHC, include physicians, nurses, and other medical technicians, support staff, and administrators who are needed to operate a functioning medical facility. Social workers, case workers, and community service professionals may also work at an FQHC to provide social services and mental health treatments to the population. These centers also employ public health educators and community health workers who engage the community and ensure that everyone understands and has access to the services offered at the FQHC.

What Are the Qualifications to Get a Job at a FQHC?

The qualifications that you need to get a job at a federally qualified health center, or FQHC, depend on your career plans and the position’s specific duties and responsibilities. Job requirements and necessary skills are similar to those at other types of medical or healthcare clinics. Nurses need to graduate from a nursing program and have an RN or LPN license from their state. Doctors need a medical degree, and social workers should have a degree in social work. Those who provide clinical services need to be licensed clinical social workers (LCSW).
