Position Title: Temporary Print Shop/Café Associate

Program: ACE Partners , or Neighborhood Enterprise Center (NEC)

Classification: Non-exempt, Temporary or Per Diem, Part-Time (6-8 hours per week)

Salary $14.00 per hour

Summary and Range of Authority: The Neighborhood Enterprise Center is a community center that provides culinary and print training, business guidance, and employment opportunities in the Center's various business functions. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Print Shop/Café Floater will assist in various capacities of a print shop and cafe including: print design and production, food and drink preparation, and providing various forms of customer service. The print shop offers a variety of printed products including: shirts, tote bags, mugs, hats, and keychains. The Neighborhood Café features specialty coffees, teas, pastries, various entrees that highlight the many flavors of City Heights' cultural diversity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the opening, closing and the daily operations of The Neighborhood Café and print shop.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to patrons of The Neighborhood Cafe and the Enterprise Center.
  • Provide counter service to customers including taking orders and general hospitality.
  • Assist the kitchen staff in preparing a wide variety of quality food for café and catering operations. This includes usage of various kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, griddles, and warmers.
  • Provide support for catering events including packaging, serving, and delivery.
  • Assist in preparing and serving various beverages. This includes usage of beverage equipment such as blenders, espresso machine, and coffee brewers.
  • Package takeout food and/or serve food to customers.
  • Operate cash register and process point of sale transactions.
  • General maintenance of the Café i.e. restocking supplies, maintaining cleanliness in order to meet or exceed Health Department standard of cleanliness, food handling and sanitation.
  • Design, manufacture, and package various print products. This includes usage of various print equipment such as: computers, heat press, sublimation printers, and plot cutters.
  • Assist in organizing the print shop including restocking, cleaning, and storing items.
  • General maintenance and cleaning of the Neighborhood Enterprise Center.
  • Set-up and break-down of various rooms of the Neighborhood Enterprise Center that may include tables, chairs, audio/video equipment, stages, and podiums.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Minimum Experience and Qualifications Required:
  • Have a positive attitude and ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with industry's best practices.
  • Demonstrate initiative, critical thinking abilities, responsible, respectful and self-motivated
  • Must be comfortable in working with individuals with severe mental illness.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including cultural competency in working with people of various cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Must pass background check (Live Scan Fingerprint).
  • Must have TB clearance.
  • Will not be debarred or excluded from participation in Federal programs by the General Services Administration and/or the Department of Health and Human Services of the Inspector General.


Additional Preferred Education or Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of the CDBG Youth Business Enterprise Program
  • Experience working in the food industry
  • Experience in the print industry
  • Bi-lingual in any language
  • Knowledge and understanding of various ethnic groups
  • Valid Food Handler's Card


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Spends approximately 75% of work time standing or walking within the work area or outside the Enterprise Center at events and locations. May include activity such as bends, twists, stoops and reaches. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Working conditions are normal for a community center environment, event venues, and a commercial kitchen. The noise level is usually moderate.
