Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and motivated student worker to join our Entomology team. The primary purpose of this position is to assist with field and laboratory activities that support ongoing research in the Controlled Environment Entomology program. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment while supporting the daily operations of our program. This position will help staff and graduate students maintain various insect colonies and plant stock, prepare for fieldwork, and support basic sample preparation and processing in the lab, greenhouse and high tunnel.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Water plants as needed.
  • Sow and transplant vegetable plants used in experiments.
  • Assist with the maintenance of whitefly, thrips, aphid, ladybug, and big-eyed bug colonies.
  • Assist with preparing supplies and materials for insect experiments.
  • Depending on the season, assistance in planting, staking, pruning, fertilizing, and harvesting various crops.
  • Contribute to general lab tasks: cleaning, stocking and preparation of supplies and reagents.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled at a community college or university.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Work Schedule:
  • Flexible hours between 7am and 6 pm, Monday - Friday, not to exceed 30 hours per week.
  • Schedule will be coordinated based on class availability.
