Position Summary

The Sustaining Engineering Manager reports to the Engineering Manager for OEM Performance Fibers. This role serves as the leader for the Sustaining Engineering team in the Mansfield, MA facility. This role is responsible for directing, coordinating, and managing Sustaining Engineering functions to achieve sustaining project goals, manage sustaining workloads and mitigate risks to product and business throughout the product lifecycle. 
The Sustaining Engineering Manager is also responsible for serving as an individual contributor and technical lead as required to support business and sustaining needs.
 

Principal Responsibilities

    Responsible for overseeing and coordinating sustaining engineering activities such as supplier change projects, lifecycle changes, process improvements, and cost improvement projects. 
    Foster the development and continuous improvement of customer-centric processes and best practices.
    Ensure regulated, ISO, company, and specific customer quality standards and procedures are implemented and maintained. 
    Manage workload distribution and prioritization of sustaining projects across sustaining team. 
    Direct and coordinate sustaining activities and projects.
    Ensure alignment of engineering goals with business objectives.
    Responsible for ensuring processes for assessing identified sustaining projects are in place and maintained which consider potential business impact, risks, benefits, and resource loading.
    Responsible for identifying resources required for critical or prioritized projects and developing a business case for additional resources when required.
    Manages relationships between Surgical and OEM business unit to ensure alignment in strategy for shared product lines. 
    Provides technical and project management guidance and support to the team as needed. 
    Ensure proper implementation of engineering, quality and regulatory standards within sustaining project work to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
    Support customer and supplier audit activities throughout the product lifecycle. 
    Work closely with the various cross-functional groups (Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.) to maintain visibility to project work in process and in queue, as well as potential resources needed and impact of project. 
    Develop succession plans that support employee retainment, growth, and overall business growth.

    Maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
    Administer company rules, regulations, policies and ethics governing employment.
    Perform other duties as assigned or necessitated by business conditions or changes.
    Travel to customers and suppliers as needed.
 

Education / Experience Requirements

    Minimum of a BS degree in engineering, business administration/management, physical sciences or related field is required. 
    Minimum of 3 years managing or leading teams.
    Minimum of 8 years experience in a medical device, component, or related manufacturing environment.
    Must have knowledge of purchasing techniques, bills of materials and routings, inventory control techniques, and ERP/MRP practices and techniques.
    Must be knowledgeable in many aspects of medical device design, development, engineering and production.  
    OEM experience is highly preferred.
    Experience working in medical device Life Cycle Management highly preferred. 
    Must demonstrate knowledge of medical device product use and applications. 
    A background and working knowledge of cGMPs, lean manufacturing principles and process monitoring tools is critical.  
 

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Project required. 
    Project Management and multi-tasking skills required. 
    Proven ability to effectively lead and develop subordinates.  
    Ability to work collaboratively with all departments
    Must have strong oral, written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills for effective dealings with customers and team members. 
    Strong leadership skills as demonstrated by the ability to make difficult decisions, take calculated risks, lead a diverse organization all the while building a team that is collaborative and results-oriented. 
    Demonstrated ability to deliver against high expectations. 
    Strong organizational, negotiation, influencing, motivational and developmental skills.
    Effective at managing resources and objectives across multiple facilities.
