Job Description

The Plumed Horse is looking for a skilled Line Cook to join the kitchen staff at our award winning, Michelin Star restaurant in Saratoga, CA. You will prepare and cook dishes from our award-winning menu while gaining invaluable experience and contributing to our restaurant culture.

As an experienced cook, you must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. You are deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. The ideal candidate values cooperation and integrity, is dependable and demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in a high stress work environment. You are receptive to criticism and feedback, and demonstrate an ability to deal calmly and effectively in high-pressure environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices

Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment

Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock

Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)

Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters

Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience

Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking

Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils

Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using various kitchen utensils and equipment

Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods

Complete daily cleaning lists, duties, temp logs, finals temps, and any other list or record as directed by your supervisor

Qualifications

Prior experience as a cook

Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)

Willingness to work in a team environment

Good communication skills

Excellent attention to detail

Ability to read and measure

Ability to follow all sanitation procedures

Time management skills

Organizational skills

High school diploma or equivalent

Food Handler certificate

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to stand or be on your feet for up to 8 hours at a time

Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs on a regular basis
