Job Objective: Ensure proper care of endoscopy equipment, provides assistance in the procedure room to physicians, patients and nursing staff, prepare and clean rooms
Scope of responsibility and accountability:
· Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment in the endoscopy center environment
· Assists the physicians as directed
· Maintains positive working relationships with physicians, manager, and peers.
· Follow infection control standards at all time
· Supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the endoscopy center
· Practices cost containment and proper, safe equipment operation
Major activities and essential job functions:
· Prepare procedure rooms and assists with diagnostic/therapeutic endoscopic procedures
· Assists the physician, nurses and CRNA with endoscope procedures.
· Sets up each procedure room prior to procedure and has appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies
available to use
· Prepares specimens for lab and documents
· Properly charts interventions completed during procedures utilizing electronic charting.
· Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment, tests equipment prior to procedure to ensure it is working properly, Reports equipment malfunction to nurse manager
· Properly cleans and disinfects/sterilizes accessories used during procedures
· Responsible for care, maintenance and disinfection of endoscopic washer
· Prepares appropriate paperwork and endoscopes for repair
· Maintain equipment records
· Maintains appropriate inventory levels and assists with ordering
· Cleans and restocks rooms and carts
· Provides patient care pre and post procedure under the supervision of the registered nurse
· May gather initial patient information questions such as current complaint, known allergies, may help patient dress and undress, may take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure), applies pulse
oximeter to patient and may monitor pulse and respirations after procedures; assists with patient discharge as directed
· Adheres to infection control principles and applies universal precautions according to hospital and departmental standards
· Keeps nurse manager updated at all times
· Orders supplies as needed
· Will utilize electronic charting throughout patient visit
· Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Position Qualifications:
· Must be 18 years of age or older
· High School graduate or equivalent G.E.D.
· Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant or Surgical Technician Program preferred
· Current BLS certification
· Effective understanding and use of the English language
· Must be flexible with working schedule and have ability to work occasional overtime
· Willingness to learn new tasks, be cross-trained in the center and be flexible with work load including assisting co-workers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Effective verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to communicate with diversified levels of patients, staff members, and management
· Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including telephone communication, office systems, and record keeping
· Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives
· Ability to organize work material and/or charts to ensure accuracy of patient records
· Ability to handle and resolve problems
· Neat appearance and a professional demeanor
Regulatory requirements/risks/exposures:
· Works with chemicals including, but not limited to, chlorine bleach, glutaraldehyde and formalin
· Physical demand requirement meets those define as HEAVY work, exerting 50 – 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 – 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 1 – 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
On-Going job Expectations & Competency:
In addition to the above, ongoing job expectations of the scope technician
· Orient to new procedures and equipment
· Responsible for maintaining current BCLS
· Maintain annual fire safety/general safety training
· Maintain annual OSHA-TB
· Maintain annual OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen
· Maintain annual PPD skin test or TB Screening Form
· Must complete performance evaluation and return in a timely manner, including competency skills checklist
· Attends and participated in at least 75% of staff meetings and reviews minutes of those meetings not attended
