Job Description: Surgical Technician

Facility: Bascom Surgery Center
Facility Type: Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
Location: Campbell, CA 95008

Position: Part-time, Full-time

Position Summary

Bascom Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Surgical Technician to support safe, efficient, and compliant surgical services within an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Surgical Technician functions as an integral member of the perioperative team and performs duties in accordance with California state regulations, accreditation standards, and facility policies. This position supports Orthopedic and ENT Surgery procedures while maintaining strict adherence to sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications

- Minimum of 1–2 years of recent experience as a Surgical Technician in an Operating Room or ASC
- Experience in Orthopedic- Sports and Total Joints Surgery required
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation
- Must meet all health, background, and competency requirements per California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and facility policy

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Prepare and maintain operating rooms according to established policies and California regulatory requirements
- Scrub and assist during Orthopedic and Plastic Surgery procedures
- Maintain strict sterile technique and infection prevention practices at all times
- Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and sterile draping
- Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments in collaboration with the circulating nurse
- Assist with specimen handling in compliance with facility and regulatory standards
- Clean, restock, and prepare operating rooms between cases following infection control protocols
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of surgical instruments and supplies
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or breaks in sterile technique immediately
- Comply with all policies related to OSHA, infection control, and patient safety

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Strong understanding of orthopedic instrumentation and plastic surgery procedures
- Knowledge of California regulatory standards for ambulatory surgery centers
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced outpatient surgical environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Professional demeanor and commitment to patient-centered care

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment and instrument trays
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for surgical tasks

Work Environment

- Ambulatory Surgery Center (outpatient setting)
- Daytime hours; no overnight shifts
- Compliance with all safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements is mandatory
