Job description
Cryogenic R&D Technician
Tonawanda, NY, United States req28539
What you will enjoy doing*
- You will be an enthusiastic member of Linde Engineering's Cryogenic Technology R&D group, which develops and commercializes technologies related to production of atmospheric gases and liquefaction, improving the competitiveness of new plants and increasing the productivity of existing plants, based at Linde's Tonawanda, NY site
- You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting existing distillation pilot plants as well as designing, building, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting new, bench-scale, and pilot-scale experimental systems
- Periodically you will be required to travel to Linde air separation facilities to support the implementation and testing of new technologies
- Both in the lab and during on-site testing, you will be responsible for the following types of tasks:
Generate safety documentation and participate in safety reviews (e.g., HAZOPs, PSSRs, MOCs)
Draft and interpret engineering drawings such as P&IDs and schematic wiring diagrams
Specify and procure all required components and equipment
Wire and configure instrumentation, such as flow meters, control valves, pressure transmitters, thermocouples, analyzers, etc
Utilize hand or power tools to install and connect process piping, flanges, Swagelok fittings, tubing, etc
Apply experience, expertise, and creativity to the troubleshooting and repair of components, equipment, and systems
Configure and operate experimental control systems, such as PLCs, LabView, etc
Perform basic scientific calculations and utilize standard computer software packages, such as MS Office
Collect, manipulate, plot, and summarize experimental data in a clear manner
Submit verbal and written progress updates to management on a regular basis
What makes you great
- You have an Associates or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technology field
- You have at least five (5), and preferably ten (10), years of relevant experience with several of the tasks and responsibilities listed above in an industrial and/or R&D environment
- Significant experience working with compressed gas systems
- Proven ability to configure, calibrate, maintain, operate and/or troubleshoot gas composition analyzers, such as oxygen analyzers, gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, etc
- Develop, program and operate control software and hardware, such as PLCs or LabView
- Experience with engineering design software such as SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD
- Design and fabricate low voltage electrical systems containing switches, relays, solenoids, etc
- You will conduct all tasks with professionalism and an unwavering commitment to safety
- You have a strong sense of operational discipline, self-motivation and the ability to multi-task effectively
- You are a detail-oriented, results-driven, and safety-focused individual who can translate research concepts into practice with limited supervision
- You can clearly communicate and effectively collaborate with PhD-level engineers, fellow technicians, on-site mechanical and electrical contractors, as well as external vendors
