Summary:
The Medical Editor is responsible for editing of Medical and Claim Payment policies and related communications for internal and external audiences. The Medical Editor ensures documents meet required and accepted format and content standards, as well providing review of content for clarity, organization, and readability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures that all medical and claim payment policy documents meet required and accepted format and content standards. Discusses editorial recommendations with policy writer to ensure clinical integrity of policy content.
- Reviews and edits communications for internal and external audiences; fact-checks information and rewrites content where necessary to improve clarity/readability, and offers solutions to improve user experience.
- Works collaboratively with other team members and with other departments as appropriate.
- Updates Style Guides as required.
- Creates presentations, charts, visual aids, and process documentations as needed.
- Performs additional duties and special projects as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills.
- 2 years' experience as a copy editor, with a demonstrated understanding of nationally accepted editing practices, and experience applying a standardized style (such as AMA, MLA, etc.) to journal or book manuscripts or medical/clinical papers/research.
- Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology.
- Demonstrated experience working with applications such as SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Detail-oriented approach to work, with the ability to perform duties with minimal instruction or supervision, both individually and as part of a team/workgroup.
- Experience with, and willingness to function in, a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
- Experience working with applications such as Visio, Adobe Acrobat is preferred.
- Experience working within health insurance industry is preferred.
