Engineer I

What you can expect as an Engineer I at Fortress:

The Engineer I is Fortress Security Solution’s (FSS) first level of critical support to ensure vendor patches and other files are being assessed to validate integrity and authenticity. Your primary responsibility will be to leverage documented methods and procedures to monitor for and analyze new software releases for deviations from common security practices or indications of compromise. You will build and utilize proprietary tools to monitor and assess each product.

You will conduct open-source research to identify product download locations, and build tools that monitor these locations. Once a change is identified, you will be expected to critically evaluate and identify any potential risks to the integrity and authenticity of the file. You will also leverage proprietary tools to generate a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and analyze SBOMs for potential vulnerabilities and other risks.

The ultimate deliverable will be to assess the vulnerabilities and risks associated with the designated files and communicate these findings to clients in a clear, concise manner.

Responsibilities include:

Conduct open-source research to obtain information about vendor software releases and patching
Support efforts to maintain Fortress’ monitored software inventory
Use and modify template scripts for obtaining information from websites using technologies including HTML, CSS, X-path, Javascript, and Python
Analyze files and file delivery mechanisms for security and content verification
Basic process/tooling troubleshooting
Continually develop coding skills to support automation
Support the creation of team process documentation

Minimum Qualifications:

Basic understanding of DNS purpose, TLS/SSL, and domain threat analysis
Basic knowledge about security topics such as sandbox analysis and the concept of hashing
Basic computer science knowledge such as variables, flow control, conditionals
Competency with the Python programming language
Working knowledge of Linux/UNIX file system, navigation and action commands and calls
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Ability to ask clarifying questions when presented with unfamiliar data or requests
Ability to extract information from non-standardized/categorical data or text
Ability to think critically, gain insight and extrapolate information to reach decisions in different contexts
Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with clients by offering viable and complete solutions

Preferred experience:

Basic knowledge about the concept of a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM)

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Minimum Associates degree
