General Job Description:

Under supervision of clinic nursing staff, medical assistant student volunteer performs a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodation services for assigned clinic patients.

Job Roles

Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs volunteer duties as assigned, within scope of assignment, under direct supervision.
The MA student extern provides support to an assigned department as a volunteer while gaining knowledge of community health care.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

Interest in volunteering.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Enrollment in an accredited school for MA certification/degree.
Current CPR certification preferred (not required)

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups.
Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.
Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
Demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with employees, coworkers, and departments.
Intermediate interpersonal and customer service skills.
Spanish/English/Arabic fluency desired, but not always required.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
