Job description

Salary: $50,750

East-West Gateway Council of Governments (EWG) has an opening for a Policy Analyst in the Research Services Department. This position will report directly to the Regional Policy Research Manager. The selected candidate will research issues in planning and policy by reviewing literature and other sources and work with partners to actively use performance measures to improve lives of people in the St. Louis region.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing quality research products using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research techniques.
  • Responding to research requests from a variety of audiences, including staff members, government officials, and the general public.
  • Communicating research findings to senior staff and agency partners.
  • Manipulating, cleaning, and maintaining data.

Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Ability to perform research and policy analysis related to social, economic, and public policy improvements.
  • Ability to communicate and write effectively and perform research and analysis of demographic, economic, and political data and concepts.
  • Knowledge of the principles of research methods.
  • Retrieval and interpretation of data pertaining to population, housing, the economy, education, crime, health, government, and other related topics.
  • Knowledge and understanding of information systems and statistical software packages, including familiarity with statistical software such as R, SPSS, or Stata. Experience with other analytics tools, such as geographic information systems (GIS) and tableau, would be beneficial, but is not required.

The successful candidate for this position will have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university, with major course work in public policy, political science, economics, or a closely related field and will have at least 1 year of directly related professional experience or an equivalent combination of directly related education and professional experience. A masters degree in a directly related field may be substituted for 1 year of experience.

The salary for this position is $50,750 annually.
