Position Summary:

The Associate Counsel will work closely with internal and external clients on a wide variety of contracting matters supporting our property management, experience/activations, technology, Intellectual property, construction, design, asset management, communications and marketing transactions and contracts. You will be responsible for managing and administering the entire contract lifecycle from receipt of the contract request through to final execution for all contracts coming from the various teams. Position Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, redline, and negotiate a wide array of day-to-day operational agreements, including consulting, service, technology, confidentiality, sponsorship, artist, construction, and property management agreements.
  • Manage and report to the Senior Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and/or relevant business teams on contract statuses.
  • Work to deliver ahigh volume of contracts in accordance with delivery deadlines as devised by leadership.
  • Maintain broad knowledge of areas relating to property management, technological innovations and contracting.
  • Work with vendors to address and resolve contracting issues.
  • From time to time, collaborate with external counsel to deliver contracts or responses to business team inquiries on legal matters.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of relevant team member training.
  • Assist with team projects as needed.


Position Requirements:
  • A J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and admission to the Michigan Bar is required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • 3+ years of commercial/transactions contracts experience.
  • Technology contracts drafting and negotiation experience a plus.
  • In-house experience a plus.
  • Real estate industry experience a plus.
  • Intellectual property and trademark working knowledge a plus.
  • Insurance and risk management working knowledge a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Experience working in a contract management software environment a plus.
  • Able to operate well independently and on team projects.
  • Able to identify and resolve legal issues in the context of the organization's short- and long-term goals and distilling the resolution into the relevant contract.
  • Ideal candidate must be confident, enthusiastic, and a self-starter who is results oriented, able to meet deadlines, exercises good judgment, and is sensitive to the needs of the business while skillfully and diplomatically managing risks for the organization.
