Client Overview:
Our client is a design-driven apparel company specializing in lifestyle products, focused on quality, fit, and thoughtful product development. The team works collaboratively across design, technical design, and production to deliver well-constructed, consistently fitting garments and is seeking a Freelance Technical Designer.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$30/hr - $35/hr
Position Overview:
The Freelance Technical Designer will support the product development team by ensuring accurate fit, construction, and quality across proto, fit, and production samples. This role requires strong pattern knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience collaborating with cross-functional partners and vendors.
Responsibilities of the Freelance Technical Designer:
- Review, measure, and evaluate proto, fit, and production samples to ensure accurate measurements, construction, quality, and overall fit.
- Support Designers by contributing to technical packages and evaluating garment construction and fit intent.
- Represent company standards for consistent fit and proper construction across all products.
- Communicate fit and development feedback to vendors in partnership with Design and Production teams.
- Lead and facilitate fit sessions, providing clear and actionable feedback.
- Document and communicate development updates through written reports, sketches, pattern corrections, and verbal communication.
- Maintain fit standards, records, reports, and sample libraries.
- Track sample status and manage development timelines.
- Participate in in-office fittings, milestone meetings, product development reviews, and approvals.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support business needs.
- 5+ years of technical design experience.
- Strong pattern knowledge and fit expertise.
- Experience reviewing and approving fit and construction across multiple sample stages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Prior technical design experience within apparel or lifestyle products.
- Experience working in a hybrid, collaborative design environment.
- Vendor communication and overseas production experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion required.
