Our client is an Environmental Laboratory are seeking a highly technical LIMS Database Specialist. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining, optimizing, and enhancing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), with a strong focus on data handling, reporting, and system integration.
Title: LIMS Database Specialist (Contract)
Location: Fully Onsite, Fairfield, NJ
Pay Rate: $50-70/hr (Depends on experience)
Schedule: 40 hours/week (Plus benefits)
Duration: Through end of year (with potential extension or conversion to permanent)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly technical LIMS Database Specialist to support a fast-paced laboratory environment. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining, optimizing, and enhancing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), with a strong focus on data handling, reporting, and system integration.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong VBA coding expertise and experience working with Clinisys Element LIMS (v6 or v7). A laboratory background is preferred but not required for candidates with strong technical capabilities.
Key Priorities
  • Data extraction & transformation: Ability to pull and manipulate large datasets (CSV, text files)
  • Database querying: Strong experience writing and managing SQL queries within Microsoft Access
  • Reporting integration: Connecting Access queries to reporting tools such as Crystal Reports
  • Data validation: Implementing flagging systems for data entering the LIMS
  • Electronic Data Deliverables (EDD): Converting and formatting large datasets for client delivery (Excel, CSV, etc.)

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain database systems and queries (SQL Server / Access)
  • Build and maintain reports using Crystal Reports and Access
  • Create customized electronic data deliverables (EDD) in multiple formats
  • Troubleshoot and maintain Access VBA applications
  • Support LIMS integrations, configurations, and instrument interfaces
  • Assist with system maintenance, upgrades, and infrastructure support
  • Develop and maintain regulatory and client-specific reporting formats

Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong proficiency in VBA coding
  • Advanced experience with:
    • Microsoft Access
    • SQL (Access-based querying required)
    • Crystal Reports (or similar reporting tools)
    • Excel (advanced data manipulation)
  • Experience with Clinisys Element LIMS (v6 required; v7 a plus)
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Proven ability to work with large datasets and EDD workflows
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of LIMS experience in a laboratory setting
  • Environmental laboratory experience (RCRA or similar)
  • Background in chemistry or related scientific field
  • Experience with system integrations and data workflows in lab environments
