Acara solutions is looking for Biomedical Technician/Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) – Information Systems for our client located in Los Angeles,CA

  • As a Biomedical Technician/Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), National Biomedical Contractor Support Services IDIQ project, you will be trusted to provide exceptional health care that improves Veteran health and well-being.
  • This mission guides the Office of Healthcare Technology Management's (HTM) support for patient care to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
  • The ideal Biomedical Technician/Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) - Information Systems will perform duties related to technology assessment, technology implementation, and the maintenance and sustainment of biomedical equipment, devices, and systems for direct support of clinical operations.
  • This position also supports the medical device integration and interface for the VA's Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM).
  • The Cerner Corporation's electronic health record (EHR) will replace the VA's existing EHR.
  • The Biomedical Technician/BESS-Info Systems will assist in the medical device integration and interfacing with selected clinical systems for a more seamless diagnosis and care documentation process.
  • Network integration of the Compass Router for all imaging modalities.
  • This include but is not limited to MUSE, ICU-CIS, PACS, and other imaging systems.
  • Specific assignments will be subject to training and certification pertaining to specific equipment, devices, and systems.
  • Technical implementation of Cerner-compatible medical system upgrades and new system installations.
  • Coordination with the biomedical engineering team and with Cerner representatives to verify Cerner-compatible status.
  • VLAN creation for radiology modalities, separation into vendor specific VLANs.
  • Managing modality updates, networking changes to new VLAN infrastructure and communicating through the Compass Router.
  • Assists the biomedical engineer with technology assessment and implementation to support the determination of specifications for radiology and imaging system replacement and modernization requirements, installation requirements, staff training, and activation process and procedures for new systems.

Pay and Benefits:

  • The Salary for this position is $ 43.57 per hour (Max Pay rate).


Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in applied science or military training
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in medical information systems and networking.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • This Biomedical Technician/BESS-Info Systems needs to possess skills associated with the information technology aspects contained within radiology and imaging systems, and therefore can support the integration and transmission of digital imagery from the radiology system to the patient record
  • Current and advanced knowledge of computer virus protection software, available software patches and upgrades, information security tools, electronics, computers and network theory.
  • Demonstrated competency in utilizing and maintaining computer and server based medical equipment, medical record databases, and proprietary and generic software; experience with TCP/IP, HL7, networking, network security and DICOM standards; experience maintaining, interfacing and troubleshooting networked medical equipment to include VLAN configuration, IP addressing, sub-netting, and network security; ability to interpret, identify and apply network engineering principles and practices; and ability to distinguish networking problems from non-networking problems.
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies' requirements, industry regulatory requirements and International Standard Organization standards.
  • Familiarity with the setup and application of network test equipment and tools.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
