Job description

Medical Technical Writer (HYB)
Key Responsibilities:
  • Create, edit, and maintain a wide range of medical and technical documents including clinical workflows, SOPs, user guides, compliance reports, and system documentation
  • Collaborate with clinical and technical subject matter experts to gather, validate, and transform complex information into clear, concise, and compliant documentation
  • Ensure all materials meet industry standards, including FDA, HIPAA, CMS, and internal UHG guidelines
  • Translate medical jargon and technical terms into accessible content for diverse audiences (internal teams, providers, payers, and regulatory bodies)
  • Manage document version control and approvals using tools such as SharePoint, Documentum, or Confluence
  • Work within Agile or SAFe environments to align documentation timelines with sprint/release schedules
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, English, Technical Writing, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in medical or technical writing, preferably in a healthcare or payer environment
  • Strong understanding of healthcare terminology, medical coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and clinical documentation
  • Experience documenting enterprise-level software or health tech platforms
  • Familiarity with regulations and compliance (HIPAA, CMS, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, etc.)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Confluence, and Jira
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working with or writing documentation for UnitedHealth Group, Optum, or other payers
  • Knowledge of EHR systems, claims processing, or value-based care documentation
  • Certification in technical writing (e.g., AMWA, STC) is a plus
